How do I stop a ticket being solved until all its tasks are complete in Zendesk?

Short answer

Turn on Required on a task list so the ticket cannot be solved until every task and subticket in it is complete. This stops work being closed early.

How to do it with Tasks and Subtickets

  1. In the Tasks and Subtickets app, open a task list under Task lists, or create one.
  2. On the Settings tab, turn on Required so every task and subticket must be complete before solving.
  3. Add the list to a ticket, by hand or automatically with the list trigger.
  4. If an agent tries to solve early, Zendesk blocks them until the outstanding tasks and subtickets are done.On a Zendesk ticket, the Tasks and Subtickets app open in the right sidebar with a required task list that still has one or two tasks unticked, and the agent trying to set the ticket to Solved. Capture the red Zendesk error that appears on Submit as Solved (the message that the ticket cannot be solved until the required tasks are complete), with the app panel and the error visible together.

Blocking solve is a small control with a big payoff. It is the difference between a process that people follow because they have to and one they follow when they remember to.
