How do I automatically create a calendar event when a ticket is created in Zendesk?

Short answer

Use the Calendar app's webhook to create a dated event whenever a ticket is created, so scheduled work shows up on the calendar automatically. A Zendesk trigger calls the webhook with the calendar, a date and a time. This is an advanced setup, so use the full walkthrough linked below for the exact configuration. If what you actually want is a deadline or reminder rather than something to see on a calendar, use the Reminders app instead.

The short version

  1. Install the Calendar app and create the calendar the events should land on, from Calendars, Add calendar. Note its ID, shown at the bottom of the calendar in the admin view.
  2. In the Calendar app Settings, click Create webhook. This adds a Zendesk webhook named App - Calendar - Event create or update.
  3. Create the ticket fields the event needs, a Date field for the start date and a Text field for the start time, so the trigger has values to pass.
  4. Build a Zendesk trigger on Ticket is created whose action calls that webhook, passing the calendar ID, start date, start time and timezone. The exact parameters are the fiddly part, so follow the full walkthrough below.
  5. Every matching new ticket now drops a dated event onto the calendar for the whole team to see.

Seeing work land on a shared calendar the moment it arrives helps a dispatcher or team spot the shape of the week. The Calendar app can create that event automatically from a trigger, using a webhook it sets up for you. It is an advanced setup, so the complete method is written up here:
